Work colleagues Part II

Lots of interesting yet annoying things have
happened at my place of work over the last 6
months or so but I have to say that plenty of
weird things happened today.

Things such as:

A young guy (16) working there who I am sure
was checking out the managers' (male) ass.
The manager also kinda caught the lad looking
at him and glared at the boy in a way as if to
say "What the fuck??" and then everything
continued as if nothing had happened. WEIRD!!

Also John (friend) and myself were chatting
during the day as we always do in work to pass
the time. Yet at various intervals the guy
beside us would butt in on our conversation
making kinda annoying comments.

He would jump in with a comment like "What
sort of a word is that? Do you even know what
it means?" John tried to explain what the word
meant but the manager came over and joked that
he was talking a load of shite. Laughter ensued
but I think John was thick. In fairness to him
he gave the correct meaning to the word
"crescendo" which means, to gradually get louder.

I said the phrase "and so I came to the conclusion"
in one of my sentences and the guy also made a
comment on that phrase too, saying that "Oh jehses,
thahs noh the way I would shay it"(intentional
incorrect spelling in quote).hehe I thought it was
kinda funny the way he was commenting on words that
I thought were pretty mainstream and acceptable.
I wonder how he would feel if he spoke to some of
the Dublin 4 (Exclusive Area of Dublin) spoilt
rich kids with accents to die for. (ie you die of
annoyance when you hear them : ) ha!).

The guy went further to comment on the word
"tolerance" also. At this point I'm afraid it
became necessary to take the piss out of the guy as
it was beginning to get annoying.
John and myself then began to discuss whether or not
"the" was a big word or not. This instantly shut him
up and nothing more was said for the remainder of the
evening concerning big words. : )

hehe Such petty little things we complain about in
work these days.*throws eyes up to sky*

Rain !

I know, I know, why the hell am I talking
about such a miserable subject?

Well today as I worked in the local Garden
Center in central Ireland (Laois), it rained
and rained all[B] day!!!!

It was misery and cold to such an extent that
I felt that it deserved a topic on my little
blog. The depression (temporary) was made worse
with the constant text messages from Sharon
(who is living in Las Palmas) about what a
wonderful day she was having at the beach.

*Shakes Raised Fist*
Damn you for rubbing it in my face.

Today, it is almost safe to say that it never
really got bright outside.
My fingers were numb as I inserted them into
the icy compost which I then used to plant
young plants into small little pots.

I am now all nice and warm in front of my PC
at home with residues of the compost still on
my fingers but I don't care.

My friend plans to go around the country side
tonight to remove the old signs from around
the country side.
He then plans to sell them on eBay to the
Americans, who love paying money for that
sort of thing. In one way it is a good idea
if it was worth a lot of money although I don't
think it is. I will check eBay tonight and
see is it a worth while risk but I don't know
what happens to people if they are caught
doing something like that.....

Also the fact that it is raining will really
limit the effectiveness of such an operation.#

Hmmmm.

New Broadband is Installed !

It is an unbelievable service I have
to say.

In the last 2 weeks I have downloaded
more data than in 3 months of the Ripwave
service.

I am very happy with it and I must thank
Irish Broadband for providing me
with a product that defies all the bad
press that Ireland has been getting over
the years for the state of its pitiful
broadband infrastructure.

Now lets get down to it. : )

With Ripwave I was constantly getting
disconnected, poor connections and in
short a fucking shite service.

Yet the new product is the EXACT opposite.
Since the engineers installed it, well, the
morning after cos the fools gave me the
wrong IP address, it has been downloading
24 hours a day non stop.
Since I have started I have had no downtime
that I have noticed anyway.

Some people would wonder what the hell do I
be downloading. The answer is simple. Old
TV Series. Getting things like MacGyver,
the A Team, 24, Scrubs etc... These files
are absolutely huge!!! They take me a week
to download, even with my connection.
These files might be illegal but I don't think
they are as important in the eyes of the
record and movie industries who are trying
to prevent new material from being pirated
ie movies leaked prior to release, leaked
music albums and other material that brings
in large sums of money for the companies.

Also the fact that TV series are recorded
by millions of people all over the world from
their TV's means that complaining about the
availability of such files on the internet
is pointless in my opinion.

Anyway, back to the main point. : )

The uncapped nature of the service is
invaluable in my opinion. What is the point
in having broadband if you cannot use it to
its full potential? Eh??

For instance Eircom have a 4gigabyte cap per
month on their service. That is a load of crap.
I download 5 gigs per day with my connection.
Yes! PER DAY

Yet I agree with Eircom in one respect, if all
I was doing was checking email, surfing the net
and playing games then 4 gigs would be plenty.
But I want more and they should provide a service
for those that want more other than charging them
150 euro per month for an unlimited connection!

In terms of the speeds I get with the connection,
I usually get between 90k and 105k per second.That
is 35 times faster than my modem at home in central
Ireland!!

Whahey.
I love broadband. : )

eXeem

Exeem has been Released!!

YES!! OH YEAH!! YES!!!

It is official and it is available.
http://www.exeem.com/ and http://www.exlite.net/ are ready to be
downloaded.

Note.
If you don't want to read further then just
download the lite version as it has no
adware/spyware.

I have been waiting for this program since
Christmas when the RIAA began an aggressive
campaign in shutting down torrent sites
all over the net. suprnova.org, youceff were
the most high profile casualties.

Exeem has been slated as the solution to all
the problems which the original torrent system
suffered from.

It is decentralised.

That is its main glaring quality along with
updates to the bitorrent protocol itself.

Exeem, itself is similar to many other P2P
programs available very few new features to play
with. Yet:

There is now a comments section where "seeders"
can make comments on specific files. Hence if
you got a file over the network and it did not
contain what you expected it to contain, then you
could complain in the comments section and prevent
other users from making the same mistake as you.
This is also useful if the file contains a virus!

The program also imposes a 1MB pack limit on all
files uploaded onto the network. I agree with this
feature as it prevents the network from getting
full with crap such as word files, pictures, pdf
files and so on.
Instead this feature forces a user to make an
archive of pictures or files to exceed this limit.
Thus if you are looking for CD covers instead of
only being able to find only 1 cover, the seeder
would instead have included the entire collection
of covers preventing fustration for you and me. : )

Bad Stuff.....

Well for a start both programs are in beta meaning
that there are still quite a number of noticeable
bugs in the programs, especially the lite version.

Also Exeem contains adware.
Lots and lots of people have been complaining about
this since it was announced that the program would
contain adware.
That is why the Exeemlite version of the program
without the adware is going to be very popular.
At least now users have choice so it should silence
many of the skeptics.

Now that the network has been decentralised, that
means there is now no control over what files are
shared over the network.
Already people are expressing concern that Exeem
could turn into a Kazaa-like mine field with fake
files, viruses and junk every where you look.
I feel that the comments feature will reduce this
but will that be enough? Only time will tell.

As of yet I am not sure wither the identity of
users is hidden with the new program.
rumors were stirring that the program used
encryption to protect users although there hasn't
been much discussion on that topic so far.

I will continue this at a later date when I
have more information.

Onspeed = 5x Faster Internet???

Will I or wont I, that is the question.

I discovered onspeed last week by
accident.Bacically here is the main points
of the service.

* Pay 40 euro for a year.

* They give you their software.

* Onspeeds servers compress your data.

* Software decompresses it on your PC.

* The Data compression can be up to 500%.

This means that if you have a 100k email of
pure text then onspeed would compress it down
to 20k and thus it would be 5 times faster.

Images are separate and the software allows you
to choose varying levels of compression for images
with resulting sacrifices on quality depending on
how aggressive you want the compression to be.

Catch?

Well The claim that they speed up your internet
connection by up to 5 times and in a way, yes,
they are correct.

But if you want to download large files ie
programs, movies, streaming, MP3's then onspeed
is no use.

They claim on their site that they are looking
into compression algorithms for MP3s and video
but I feel that they are entering into an
impossible situation in that arena for several
reasons.

1
How do they compress data which is already
compressed to extreme levels? ie it is very hard
to shrink MP3s or Movies to sizes smaller than
existing sizes.....

2
If they did begin to offer a video/audio
compression service, how could their servers
possibly cope with the enormous traffic generated?

Anyway

With there current service I think I will take the
plunge and go for the year subscription. I think
that the price is very good even if it only speeds
up general surfing and emails.
